Patricia Wrede: Guest of Honor

Pat Wrede and I have known one another for about twenty-five years. She once consented to try to teach me to sew; but we are still speaking. She once drove a car larger than she was used to over roads smaller than she was used to, on the side of the road she was not used to, through various parts of England and Wales, with me (I don't drive at all) as the sole navigator; but we are still speaking. We were in the same writing group for years; she left, I didn't; but we are still speaking. She can be prickly and blunt, but she is one of the kindliest, most tolerant, most understanding people of my acquaintance. She's also one of the most energetic, and one of the most open to new notions. And she has a splendid sense of humor.

For the space of a weekend rather than a quarter-century: if you want to talk about cats; remodeling bathrooms; weaving and sewing; why Arthurian romances of the 12th century are like fan fiction; fan fiction more generally; vegetarian cooking; what it's like to novelize a Star Wars movie; the reading and writing of fantasy, science fiction, romance, historical novels, mysteries, and almost anything else; how her or your creative processes work; gardening; accounting; worldbuilding; the art of gossiping about imaginary people; or the finer nuances of viewpoint -- for any or all of these, Pat is your woman. Just don't make sweeping generalizations about writing, or I will not be responsible for the consequences.
