Sheila Finch has published eight science fiction novels, more than thirty short stories, and a number of articles about science fiction and writing. She is probably best known for her series about the Guild of Xenolinguists (the novella, “Reading the Bones,” won a Nebula). Other awards include the Compton Crook Award (INFINITY'S WEB), and the San Diego Book Award for YA novel TIGER IN THE SKY. A novel, BIRDS, previously serialized, was recently re-published by Wildside Press. Set in near-future Southern California, it features the area's aerospace industries, telling the story of a communications satellite and the alien life form that blunders into it.
Sheila has recently retired from teaching at El Camino College. Retirement is for writing and traveling – and getting paid for it, including lecturing about SF on the high seas aboard the Queen Mary 2. Originally from London, England, she now lives in California with a cat and two retired racing greyhounds.
