ALPHABETICAL LIST

Bill Rotsler (1926 - 1997) knew everyone and did everything.

He designed the Nebula Award trophies for the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America (SFWA).   He went house-hunting with Marilyn Monroe.   He wrote science fiction.   He sculpted with welded steel rods.   He celebrated the West Coast S-F conference (Westercon) as his birthday.

He was both a pro and a fan.   As a fan, he was famous for graphic art.   He won the Hugo Award five times as Best Fanartist, in 1975 and 1979, then in 1996 and 1997, with a Retrospective Hugo for 1946, a remarkable span.   His cartoons were deft, his serious drawing fine, his fluency downright breathtaking.

In 1998 the Southern California Institute for Fannish Interests (SCIFI) established the Rotsler Award to honor long-time achievement by a fanartist.   Among SCIFI's other projects have been the 1984, 1996, and 2006 Worldcons ("L.A. Con II", "L.A. Con III", and "L.A. con IV").

The Rotsler Award, which carries a $300 honorarium, is announced at LOSCON, with a display in the Art Show.

The current Rotsler Award judges are Mike Glyer, John Hertz, and Claire Brialey.
